Hainan is the first province in China to carry out a policy for temporary entry and exit for foreign yachts in China.
From July 16, 2019 to January 15, 2020, the provincial government has approved the temporary opening of eight coastal waters near areas including Nanshan and Boao.
China has continued with plans to build Hainan province into a global tourism destination by 2035, including measures to relax offshore duty-free policies and further develop cruise tourism.
Challenges to the growth of yacht market in China have included a heavy 44% import duty tax, 36.5% domestic sales tax, passenger number restrictions and lack of marinas with anciliary boat infrastructure such as shipyards and yacht services.
